Introduction

    The easiest way to refute a teaching is to present it in the worst possible light and in its most extreme form, With the reader of hearer thus repulsed at the very idea of such a teaching, it is a simple thing to "finish it off" with a few well-placed blows without really dealing with the heart o the issue. Such, we feel, is the case with Mr. Weston W. Fields' rebuttal of the Gap Theory.

    This tainting of the Gap Theory begins in the foreword by a well-known, creation-science writer, John C. Whitcomb, jr. Here Mr. Whitcomb introduces the Gap Theory as a mere invention of Dr. Thomas Chalmers designed to accommodate the "geological ages" demanded by the scientists of his time (early 1800's). This is much like the argument against the Rapture which says it was a new doctrine dreamed up by a Scottish Girl in a vision. As to the accuracy of these two claims, we cannot attest. With regard to both doctrines (Gap Theory and Rapture), we only wish to see, "what saith the Scriptures?"
